Why the Range Hood Became the Kitchen's Star
Interior designers have long known that the range hood is the most overlooked design opportunity in the kitchen. In traditional European kitchens, the hood was always a prominent architectural element — carved stone, plaster, or brick rising from the cooktop like a fireplace. The return of the plaster range hood in American homes is really just re-discovering this tradition.
In Utah, we have seen this trend accelerate significantly in the Salt Lake City, Draper, and Sandy markets. A typical venetian plaster range hood project takes 2 days and starts around $2,800 — a fraction of the cost of a custom stone or tile hood, but with a result that is arguably more beautiful and certainly more unique.
